Tidy Pores Detailed Instructions & Tips
Welcome to our detailed product use page for Tidy Pores.
On this page, you’ll find detailed usage instructions, along with tips and tricks for different skin types and climates.
Overview
Tidy Pores has been formulated to help with the following:
- To provide an effective Vitamin C based product that doesn’t use L-Ascorbic Acid. L-Ascorbic Acid is an amazing gold standard ingredient, but some users find it irritates their skin, burns, or stings. It is also unstable once mixed with water and has a limited shelf life.
- To provide sensitive and acne-prone skin with a potent blend of ingredients that target oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation. These are two of the earliest events that precede acne development. Very few products on the market are targeting these pathways.
- To help fade post acne marks using a blend of tyrosinase inhibitors with dual anti-irritant and soothing properties.
- To provide long term, flexible hydration and moisture to the skin with humectants that work in both dry and humid environments.
Application Guide
Tidy Pores has gone through tolerability testing also known as Human Repeat Insult Patch Testing (HRIPT) on 53 human volunteers. During HRIPT, the product is applied to the skin repeatedly and covered with an occluded patch over a period of 4 weeks.
The purpose of this test is to ensure the product is tolerated by a broad cross-section of users and to monitor for any irritation, redness/erythema, or allergic reactions. Any reactions that occur during HRIPT are recorded according to the below evaluation criteria:
All subjects completed the HRIPT trial with a score of “0”. This means that in the subjects who applied Tidy Pores repeatedly over a period of a month, none developed skin irritation.
Although Tidy Pores has gone through this testing process, we always recommend patch testing any new skincare product for at least 7 days to see if any new irritation, breakouts, or allergic reactions occur. When you’re completing a patch test, avoid introducing any other new products or supplements to your routine.
But, we recognize that everyone is unique and anyone can be allergic to pretty much anything. While products can be formulated to minimize the risk of allergies and irritation, there is no such thing as a truly hypoallergenic product.
Formulation Guide
How much natural oil your skin produces and the climate you live in will have an impact on your skincare routine and whether or not you need to use an occlusive to lock in your skin's moisture.
If your skin is naturally dry you may also need to add in an emollient- this can be a challenge because a lot of them cause breakouts. This may also change throughout the year depending on where you live.
We formulated Tidy Pores to be ultra lightweight, non-sticky and layerable. It doesn’t contain any occlusives or emollients and this was an intentional decision we made in order to make it more versatile.
Tidy Pores is high in humectants. We chose Acetamidoethoxyethanol as our hero humectant because it’s non-sticky, provides hydration for over 30 hours, works in both dry and humid climates, and outperforms Glycerin on all hydration and cosmetic elegance measures. It’s truly the best humectant on the market right now.
Notably absent is Glycerin. We don’t like it because when it’s used at a high enough percentage for barrier repair it gets really sticky and tacky. Some users also find it causes flesh colored bumps on their skin and can cause a stinging sensation particularly on a compromised skin barrier.
The hero active ingredient in Tidy Pores is a newer vitamin C derivative called Aminopropyl Ascorbyl Phosphate. There are a LOT of vitamin C derivatives out there and we chose AAP because preliminary testing has shown that it outperforms L-Ascorbic Acid on all fronts and it’s extremely stable. This testing needs to be done on a broader scale but the prelimiary results are extremely promising. In other words AAP provides all the benefits of L-Ascorbic Acid with none of the drawbacks.
Generally speaking, Tidy Pores is not meant to be used as a standalone product. Most users will want to layer a moisturizer on top. We formulated Super Sensa Barrier Repair Moisturizer to be the perfect addition but any moisturizer or occlusive will work.
Multitasking Guide
We formulated Tidy so it can be used in a variety of ways. The formula has been intentionally designed to be compatible with a wide variety of other product textures.
All but the most oily skin types in humid climates will most likely want to layer another product on top for moisture.
Here are a few ways you can use Tidy Pores
- Underneath your favorite moisturizer (We’re obviously partial to Super Sensa but any moisturizer will work)
- Underneath your favorite occlusive (we love plain petroleum jelly or Eucerin’s Aquaphor Healing Ointment)
- Mixed in with your retinoid treatment to decrease dryness and irritation
- Added to Tinted Moisturizer, BB or CC cream for a dewy finish; it works with both water-based and silicone-based products
